Nana Konadu named NDP Presidential candidate for November polls
Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings has been confirmed as the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDP) for the elections in November.
Nana Konadu was given the mandate to lead the NDP in the polls in November at the party’s National Delegates’ Congress at the Trade Fair Center in Accra on Saturday.
Speaking after the declaration, Nana Konadu called for unity within the party ahead of the general elections “so we can confront all the negativity.”
According to her, the NDP “embodies the spirit and collective courage of the people of Ghana” and that the party was ready to lead Ghanaians out of the hardships they have had to endure over the last few years.
She added that Ghana’s “greatest resource” is its people, “not cocoa or gold” and that it was unfortunate that they were “being suffocated with weak and bad governance.”
The Congress was attended by about 3,000 delegates from all over the country as well as Ghana’s former President Jerry John Rawlings, who received a rapturous welcome from the NDP.
Other positions contested for at the Congress on Saturday were the National Chairman and Vice Chairpersons, General Secretary and two Deputies, Youth leader and two Deputies, National Women’s leader and two Deputies and the Communications Director and two Deputies.
The NDP broke away from the NDC ahead of the elections in 2012 but failed to contest in the Presidential Elections after their candidate, Nana Konadu failed to meet the Electoral Commission’s requirements.
However the party has given indications that they intend to make a strong challenge for the Presidency in November.
The NDP have also stated they will present parliamentary candidates in all 275 constituencies across the country.
