EC announces July 19 date for Abetifi by-election

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that the by-election  in the Abetifi Constituency of the Eastern region will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2016.

The by-election was necessitated by the death of the Member of Parliament for the constituency,  Peter Wiafe-Peprah, on May 21.

In a statement signed by its Deputy Chair in charge of Operations, Amadu Sulley, the EC said that the by-election is in accordance with Article 112(5) of the Constitution and that filing fee was GH¢ 1,000

The EC’s statement added: “Nominations for the election will be taken on Tuesday the 21st day of June and Wednesday the 22nd day of June, 2016 at the District Office of the Commission at Abetifi in the Eastern Region, from 9:00am to 12 noon and 2:00pm to 5:00pm both days.

“Nomination forms may be obtained from the District Office or the Regional Office of the Commission at Koforidua.

“Candidates for the election shall provide two recent photographs (bust) with red background, showing the full face and both ears.”
