Douglas Osei Nti has been elected to replace the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s parliamentary nominee for the Krachi West Constituency Kenneth Gyemeh.
The election was necessitated by the sacking of Kenneth Gyemeh in June by the executives of the party.
He was relieved of his post after claims that he had not shown enough commitment towards winning the seat from the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP.
The NPP felt his popularity in the constituency was waning and sought to replace him with four months to go until the polls in November.
Gyemeh has denied the allegations against him, stating that he remained committed to the party’s interests in the constituency.
The Krachi West Constituency Chairman of the NPP, Mathias Banyaolaenso, said at the time that the party was left with no other option than to replace Gyemeh.
“We realized the guy cannot help us in our constituency to win this coming elections. With all indications and what we are also hearing from the ground, we realized that he is in bed with a group of people which will not help the constituency,” he explained.
“He is not respecting the constituency at all… he doesn’t respect the elders, constituency executives and even party members.Together with all these things, we had to send him out and find another and that is what happened on Sunday,” he stated.
