The Minister-designate for Regional Reorganisation and Development Dan Kwaku Botwe has justified the proposed creation of new regions by President Nana Akufo-Addo.
He was purposely appointed by the president to prosecute that agenda, he suggested, adding that several scholars have researched the creation of regions, with some recommending as many as 20 regions instead of the current ten.
According to him, his job will be quite easy because there’s “meeting of minds” on the need for new regions by both the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party.
“I feel I’m lucky to be heading this ministry because it looks like there is a meeting of minds on this area. The NDC mentioned it in their manifesto and the NPP and the President also believe there is the need to create more regions, so we all agree with this,” he said.
He pledged to work with key stakeholders to build consensus towards the creation of the regions.
