Ghana Police Announce Traffic Measures Ahead of NDC and NPP Rallies

The Ghana Police Service has outlined detailed traffic management measures ahead of two significant political rallies by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), scheduled for Thursday, December 5. The NDC rally is set to take place at Zurak Park in Madina, while the NPP will host their event at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon.

During a press conference held on Wednesday, December 4, the police assured the public of their readiness to regulate traffic and ensure safety at both venues. As part of these measures, there will be traffic diversions along major routes to the rally grounds, supported by an increased presence of police officers to maintain order and prevent potential clashes between supporters of the two parties.

The planned diversions will impact several routes. Supporters of the NPP traveling from Adenta will be redirected to take a left turn at Ritz Junction, moving through the Aviation area and the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), before reaching Okponglo to access the University of Ghana campus. Those traveling from Dome will be required to pass through Haatso Junction, heading toward GIMPA and onward to the University of Ghana.

For NDC supporters, specific routes have also been designated to facilitate smooth traffic flow. Supporters approaching from the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange will take a right turn at Shiashie, continue toward UPSA, and then turn left to join the Madina main road. Meanwhile, those traveling from Dome will take a left turn at the KFC Junction on the Haatso Road, proceed toward Wisconsin University, and then move on to Zongo Junction before heading to Zurak Park.

The police have also announced a temporary roadblock directly in front of the NDC rally venue in Madina as an additional measure to control traffic. Officers will be strategically deployed along all key routes to assist road users and maintain the smooth movement of vehicles and pedestrians throughout the day.

In a statement, the police urged the leadership of both political parties to ensure that their supporters conduct themselves peacefully and avoid any actions that could disrupt public order. A spokesperson emphasized that the primary focus of these measures is to safeguard the general public while facilitating successful rallies for both parties. They further called for the cooperation of all road users and encouraged adherence to the traffic regulations.

These efforts aim to minimize inconvenience to commuters while ensuring safety and order during the events. The public has been advised to plan their movements carefully and follow the directives issued by law enforcement. The police have reiterated their commitment to managing the rallies effectively while maintaining peace and protecting lives and property.
