Ghana’s contingent for the 2024 Olympic Games will proudly wear the traditional 'fugu' for the opening ceremony, marking a celebration of the nation's diverse cultural heritage. The athletes will don this beautiful handwoven fabric to showcase Ghanaian pride and unity during the event.
In an interview with Joy Sports, Ghana’s media attache, Benjamin Willie Graham, shared details of the ceremonial attire. "We are going to wear our traditional fugu and a black down as well as special footwear," Graham stated, emphasizing the team’s intention to highlight Ghana’s culture on the global stage.
Additionally, five Ghanaian athletes will be part of the opening ceremony, which will take place on the river Seine. "The opening ceremony will be on the river, so five of our athletes will be there to ensure they hoist the flag of Ghana," Graham added.
The 2024 Games’ opening ceremony is set to take place on Friday, July 26, along the scenic Seine River. This unique concept will be a first in Olympic history, as the ceremony is traditionally held in a stadium. The river will replace the typical track, and the quays will be transformed into spectator stands. The iconic Parisian landmarks and the setting sun will provide a breathtaking backdrop, making this ceremony an unforgettable spectacle.
This outdoor setting is expected to make the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony the largest ever, in terms of both audience size and geographical reach.
