GJA Designates Press Centre as Election Hub to Promote Credibility
The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has announced the Ghana International Press Centre (GIPC) as a dedicated hub for election-related press conferences, reinforcing its commitment to fostering transparency and credibility during the electoral process. This initiative aims to provide a central platform for political actors and the media to engage effectively as the country heads to the polls.

In a statement issued by the GJA’s General Secretary, Mr. Kofi Yeboah, the association confirmed that the Gifty Afenyi Dadzie Conference Hall at the GIPC will be made available for political parties, candidates, and stakeholders to host press conferences. This move is intended to streamline communication during the electoral period, offering a convenient and accessible space for the dissemination of election-related information.

The GJA has also urged media houses to station news teams at the Press Centre to ensure comprehensive and real-time coverage of these events. According to the association, this collaborative approach will enhance the quality of information reaching the public while promoting accountability among political actors.

In a related development, the GJA disclosed plans to establish a National Media Collation Centre (NMCC) at the GIPC. This facility will serve as a hub for collecting and collating election results, with real-time projections displayed on large monitors. The NMCC is designed to be a reliable source of information for journalists, political representatives, and the general public, supporting the media’s crucial role in delivering accurate election updates.

“The GJA is committed to facilitating credible elections, and this initiative underscores our role in ensuring transparency and accessibility during this critical period,” the press release stated. The association emphasized that the NMCC will enable the media to play an integral role in safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.

The GJA expressed confidence that these initiatives would foster productive interactions between political actors and the media, ultimately contributing to peaceful and credible elections. The association also reassured Ghanaians of its dedication to upholding journalistic standards and ensuring fair reporting during this pivotal moment in the nation’s democratic journey.

Media houses have been encouraged to take full advantage of the resources at the GIPC, including the conference facilities and the NMCC, to actively participate in the election coverage. By doing so, the media can contribute significantly to an informed electorate and a transparent electoral process.

The GJA’s efforts to centralize press activities and establish a reliable collation system underscore its commitment to a free, fair, and credible election, which is vital for maintaining public trust in Ghana’s democracy.
