Jemima Abena Konadu Mensah, the Ga East Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has called on the electorate to steer clear of misinformation and disinformation as Ghana prepares for the December 7 elections. She emphasized that informed voting and resisting vote-buying are critical to holding elected officials accountable at the end of their four-year term in office.
Speaking at a peace forum aimed at educating voters in the Dome Kwabenya constituency, Mrs. Mensah highlighted the importance of voter participation in the electoral process. She noted that failing to vote for one’s preferred candidate could lead to dissatisfaction if others elect a representative who does not align with their expectations.
The peace forum brought together parliamentary candidates contesting the Dome Kwabenya constituency seat, providing them an opportunity to reassure voters of their commitment to a violence-free election. Candidates took turns urging their supporters to coexist peacefully and pledged their dedication to maintaining calm throughout the electoral period.
Mrs. Mensah reiterated that peaceful elections are essential for fostering unity and national progress, urging voters to approach the polls responsibly and with confidence in the systems in place. She underscored that active participation in elections ensures the electorate's voice is heard and their preferences reflected in governance.
Political parties participating in the forum collectively pledged to uphold peace and integrity during the elections. They encouraged voters to trust the Electoral Commission and the Ghana Police Service to ensure a credible, fair, and secure electoral process.
As the general election draws closer, the NCCE and stakeholders continue to advocate for peaceful coexistence and a robust democratic process, urging all eligible voters to participate actively and responsibly on election day.
