Report by Jerome Kuseh, for Ghana Decides The Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan has indicated that the results of the general elections tomorrow may be be released within 48 hours. The Chairman said this while addressing reporters yesterday, 5 December, 2012, on the commission’s preparations ahead of tomorrow’s poll. The electoral commissioner gave his assurance that the elections were going to be held without any major hitches. This year’s election would be the first in Ghana’s history to verify registered voters using biometric data. This system was to allow for a more credible voter’s register. The system has however failed, per the EC’s own admission, to prevent the registration of minors. The elections are planned to start tomorrow, 7 December, 2012 at 7:00am and polls close at 5:00pm unless there are people still in line to vote. Over 14 million Ghanaians are registered to vote and turnout is expected to be high. afari-gyan, EC, Election 2012, Elections, ghana, Ghana Decides, GhanaDecides |
