The Ghana Police Service has placed a GH₵20,000 bounty on a group of individuals who were captured in a viral video allegedly threatening acts of violence in the lead-up to the December 7 general elections. The video, which has since sparked public concern, shows the suspects making disturbing statements about inciting violence, and the police are now seeking assistance in locating and apprehending them.
In a statement released on November 15, the Ghana Police Service confirmed that the suspects, identified as members of the “NDC Youth of Obuasi,” had violated Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), which deals with threats of harm and violence. The police further explained that such actions could potentially disrupt the peaceful atmosphere that the country strives for during election periods.
Following the release of the video, a comprehensive police operation was launched with the aim of locating and arresting the individuals involved. Despite the ongoing efforts, the suspects have remained elusive, and none of the individuals featured in the video have been captured so far.
The names of the suspects, including Fuseini Yahuza, Bernard Ahedor, Simon, Basit, Musa Yakubu alias Agya Musah, and others, have been circulated publicly, and the police are actively pursuing leads to bring them to justice. The individuals are reportedly on the run and have so far evaded capture. The police have issued a public appeal for any information that could assist in their arrest.
An updated statement from the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, issued on November 24, urges the public to come forward with credible information. In particular, the police have set up a dedicated phone line, 0547927272, for people to provide tips anonymously or directly. The authorities are stressing the importance of public cooperation in helping to identify and apprehend the suspects.
As a further incentive, the Ghana Police Service has offered a reward of GH₵20,000 for any individual whose information leads to the arrest of those responsible for making the violent threats. This move is part of the police’s broader effort to ensure that the 2024 elections are conducted in a peaceful and secure environment.
The police have also reassured the public that they are committed to ensuring a secure and orderly electoral process. They have urged citizens to remain calm and trust that the police are actively working to address the situation. The force emphasized that such threats will not be tolerated, and anyone found guilty of trying to disrupt the electoral process with violence will be held accountable under the law.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenge of maintaining law and order during periods of heightened political activity. As Ghana approaches the general elections, the authorities are taking a firm stance against violence and intimidation, sending a strong message that peaceful conduct during the election season is paramount.
The Ghana Police Service’s efforts to ensure a violence-free election are being supported by various sectors of the public, and with the reward now being offered, there is an added hope that the public will come forward with the information needed to capture the suspects. Meanwhile, the police continue their manhunt, ensuring that justice will prevail and that the peace of the nation remains intact as Ghana prepares for its upcoming elections.
